Miracle Shifts & Transitions
Our classes will focus on the shifts of weight and energy which take place as we move with a partner, as well as those which happen as we move from one partner to another. We will take the time to observe and witness these subtle moments which actually are the essence of the dance- the core of our connection to each other.
Here are some of the questions which will be addressed during our time together:
How do I feel as I’m shifting my weight with my partner?
What textures are revealed as I slowly shift my weight as opposed to shifting it quickly?
How can I give my dance more depth as I shift my weight- and how can I add lightness to it?
Each shift is a potential doorway, allowing a transition to take place within ourselves and potentially with our partner. A transition can be a change of state or a new perspective - a miracle!
“A miracle is a shift in perception.”
Let’s explore these shifts and see where they take us…

Driving motivations in contact improve?
Goals:
– Exercise technical movements applicable in duo or multiple partners
– Develop a safe practice, for yourself and for others
– Develop your listening and communication skills (verbal and non-verbal)
In this introduction to contact improve, we will explore some essential principles that lie at the heart of this practice. We will explore different possibilities of duet movements, then approach the different motion motivations (press / push / pull / slide / roll). We will apply these notions through translation in space through three levels which are both distinct and linked: lying down, intermediate and standing.
At the same time, we will focus on how to listen to yourself and your partners in a jam context. We will seek to develop stable mobility, to change roles, to remain aware of our environment and, sometimes, to verbally express yourself. Each class will start with a short warm-up and then combine each of the objectives. Dancers of all levels welcomed.

Lift gently
In this series of four workshops, we will go through the basic principles of partner work: listening, center of gravity, support base and tensegrity (tension and integrity).

In addition, we will familiarize ourselves with several lifts, that is to say methods for one partner to transfer his weight to the other. We will see that the success of a lift is not a question of weight or strength, but a question of technique.

Contact improv 101
This entry level series of 4 classes will allow you to familiarize yourself with basic CI vocabulary in an environment that prioritizes consent and healthy boundaries. We will explore different tones of touch in dance while cultivating an embodied language of care.
We will practice listening to our bodies and communicating what feels good in the moment through both verbal and non-verbal channels. The class is open to anyone as a part of ACI Sunday class series. That being said, as queer dancers we are committed to creating a safer environment for marginalized folks - queer and BIPOQ communities.
Coming to contact for the first time can be intimidating and awkward. In the spirit of playfulness and care we want to share with you, tools which will help you express yourself in an authentic way through touch and movement.
