Sophie Bijjani is a dancer, musician, and teacher. Contact improvisation arrived as a natural continuation of her foundational movement practices: dance, gymnastics, yoga.
A trained singer, she pursues an ongoing inquiry into what shapes her instrument, the body.
Rooted first in bodywork and energetic approaches, that inquiry has since deepened through somatic disciplines such as Body-Mind Centering and the Alexander Technique.
Her teaching centers on the practice of attunement and playfulness: sharpening the ability to stay present and in relationship with our own bodies, physical and psychic, and with those of others, then carrying that awareness into movement. She trains the body to meet the unexpected with fluidity and creativity.
