CI offers us a container for the practice of non-verbal communication, of expanded awareness, and for creative expression while allowing what is unexpected to emerge. Perceptual skills involving the somatic-sensory systems will be scrutinized during our warm-ups and integrated into our research.
We will focus on the dynamics and intricacies of touch, tone, texture, weight, momentum and moving support as we ground ourselves in the fundamentals of CI.
Space, time, gesture, imagination and feeling will complement our compositional awareness in solo, duet, trio and ensemble work. Our practice will center around communal and individual respect for ourselves and one another.
BIOGRAPHIES
Andrew Biography : details HERE
Jonah Leslie Biography :
As the son of two accomplished dancers (Jo Leslie and Andrew Harwood) this CI specific bio begins at childhood. Exposure to all the elements which dance touches on were absorbed naturally as being central themes in life. Observing creation, performance, and teachings from the likes of Peter Bingham, Kirstie Simson, Alito Alessi, Frey Faust, Randy Warshaw, Steve Paxton, and many more during ripening years.
Later, taking class with Chris Aiken, and many with his father of course, as well as having direct access to the progression of this form via family archival recordings (spanning the entire life course of CI) has enabled a feedback loop between early life exposure and matured learning. First degree influences on Jonah’s movement practice beyond CI include studies in Somatics (Andrea Olsen, Anna Halprin, Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, Feldenkrais, Ideokinisis and more), Tai Chi Chuan, Contemporary dance and earlier on Street dance (house, breaking, popping and more) .
He founder and programmer of White Wall Studio Montreal since 2007, a multi-disciplinary community space with a an accent on wellness aimed at supporting and connecting creative communities within movement, music and fine arts.
