What does choosen mixity mean in the context of this jam?
This jam is not open to cis-men. Contact improv is a dance form that involves physical proximity and a level of bodily intimacy which can make us feel vulnerable.
With this choosen mixity, we aim to create a space where trans, non-binary people and women are more likely to enjoy an increased sense of security while practising contact improv.

A few intentions for this jam:

~ Creation of a safer space within the Montreal contact improv community to encourage Queer folks and women to connect through their bodies and nonsexual touch by eliminating certain factors that can trigger fear and insecurity
~ Creation of a space for connection, and for being present to oneself and to others, by the use of movement, dance and playfulness
~ Providing ourselves with the opportunity to explore contact improv dynamics in a manner that is more fluid and less binary such as heavy/ light, strong/weak, active/passive, leader/followers, etc.
~ Exploration of contact improv as a dance form that allows us to practice consent (verbal & non-verbal) with ourselves and others
No experience required! Open to dancers of all levels of experience
