These classes invite participants to reconsider our perception of what the essential resources of CI are by focusing on certain fundamental facets such as: sensations, space, time and our deep relationships with other dancers.
We will explore several vital physical skills such as:
modulating our body tone to reduce physical tension, falling and landing safely at any level, negotiating and supporting weight with ease, accessing momentum and follow through, and tuning our reflexes, our survival skills to become omnidirectionally responsive while dancing with a partner.
Release technique, hands-on work (bodywork), numerous scores for dancing as well as discussions will be included.
2) CONTACT IMPROVISATION AND INSTANTANEOUS COMPOSITION (Saturday)
(Some basic CI or improvisation experience is recommended)
Saturday, June 4, 11, 18, 25 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. / $25

Beyond the initial abundance of sensations, the application of numerous skills and the feelings of enjoyment resulting from CI, there is the eventual recognition that we are composing a dance in real time that has the potential of generating a powerful sense of order that deeply resonates for us, and the viewer on an aesthetic level.
Each class serves to create containers for focused inquiry. Through solo body, duets, small groups, and ensemble work, we will engage with dancing that is sensitive, playful and musical while harnessing our compositional inventiveness, increasing the qualitative range of our exchanges, and activating spatial volume.
This training will facilitate our ability to develop an embodied consciousness, to invite others to see and appreciate our dancing and to develop responsible ways of practicing Contact Improvisation as a transparent act of celebration and aliveness.
