Biography of Kirstie Simson

02. Bio Kirstie Simson

I place my work within the broader context of humanity’s effort to evolve as a species.

This will be her third visit to Montreal since the 1990s. Her presence in our dance community is an event not to be missed. Her artistry in movement is remarkable, and her teaching is guided by great wisdom and profound humanity.

Kirstie Simson is part of the first generation of dance practitioners who contributed to the rise and development of Contact Improvisation.

Regarding her teaching, she writes:

03. Kirstie Simson

“As a dance improvisation teacher, my goal is to engage each person in the living experience of spontaneous creation and instant improvisation. What fuels my work is the constant rediscovery of how this exploration can become a catalyst for learning and offer lasting benefits throughout one’s life.

I view learning as a transformation that emerges from self-discovery through a continuous process of exploration and revelation. I deeply believe that each and every person carries within themselves an exceptional potential for creativity.

“Our bodies are designed for movement, and it is in our nature to fully engage with this embodied intelligence. Through the study of simple movement practices, we can cultivate a mind-body state that promotes our overall well-being—a state capable of enriching and even transforming our relationship with life.”
